Lance ready to ‘extract the maximum’ for qualifying in Austria

Lance Stroll finished Friday in P4 as Formula One rounds out the first triple-header of 2021 with the Austrian Grand Prix.

Lance spent a significant amount of FP1 working on Pirelli’s prototype tyres ahead of their planned debut at the British Grand Prix.

In a challenging session for Lance as he attempted to find the optimum balance in the AMR21, he ended the session in P13.

‍

The afternoon session proved more fruitful for the Lance. Despite late drizzle, Lance was able to put in a 1:05.139 lap time on the Soft tyre to finish P4 behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

“It has been a good day for us. The morning was a little more eventful for me, but I think we managed to put together plenty of clean laps and we have learned a lot. One of the key factors this weekend will be the softer range of tyres that Pirelli has chosen. I think it is a good call because it could mix things up on Sunday and create some strategy variance. In a tight midfield battle, that could be exciting. On our side, the car feels good on the softer tyres. All in all, we can be happy with our work today. Now it is about extracting the maximum for qualifying tomorrow.”

Lance will return for FP3 of the Austrian Grand Prix at 11am BST on Saturday July 3.
