Positives to take beneath the palm trees

Lance Stroll completed full-race distance in the Miami Grand Prix, finishing P17.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team driver Lance Stroll concluded the Miami Grand Prix in P17. He'd previously placed P16 during 2025's race.

90 minutes of Free Practice

After a five-week break, drivers had one practice session to get up to speed.

During this 90-minute period, Lance tested all three tyre compounds. He began on the Hards before taking to the track on Softs midway through the session.

For his final stint, Lance switched onto Mediums for Free Practice’s final 15 minutes.

Overall, he set a total of 28 laps and a fastest time of 1:32.959.

Gaining positions in the Sprint

Struggling with front locking, Lance unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to set a time during Sprint Qualifying.

He began the Sprint from P21. Lance and teammate Fernando Alonso were the only drivers to start on the Soft compound.

By the end of Lap 1, Lance had climbed up to P19, and he continued to make progress throughout the race. On Lap 7, he overtook Valtteri Bottas for P18, and then later overtook Alonso for P17.

The battling continued until the end of the race, and following disqualification for Gabriel Bortoleto, Lance ultimately finished P17.

Full distance complete in the 305

Lance was caught in traffic during Qualifying and therefore his Soft tyres were not in the optimal window. With a time of 1:31.164, he qualified P19.

Due to the risk of thunderstorms, the race was brought forward by three hours.

Following disqualification from Qualifying for another driver, Lance began from P18.

Despite the mixed weather conditions throughout the day, the race start was dry. Therefore, Lance began on Mediums, and by the end of the first lap, he was up to P16.

Incidents involving Isack Hadjar, Pierre Gasly and Liam Lawson resulted in a Safety Car period that paused running on Lap 6. When the Safety Car ended on Lap 11, Lance was running in P15.

At the end of Lap 20, Lance pitted for Soft tyres. A few laps later, light spots of rain fell, but a high track temperature meant the rain didn’t have an impact on running.

Lance pitted again on Lap 36, coming in for another set of Softs.

The team’s progress meant Lance was able to complete full race distance for the first time this season and conclude in P17.

Lance’s season will continue at his home race, the Canadian Grand Prix on 22-24 May.

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, said:

"It's the first time this season both cars finished a race, so that's a positive to take from Miami. We managed to get more mileage in the car and experienced fewer vibrations this weekend.
"In hindsight, our tyre strategy didn't work out but from a reliability perspective we've made a step in the right direction. We now need to work on our performance-related issues. There are lots of areas for us to improve on."
