Lance Stroll ended Friday running in the top 10 as Formula One returns to Singapore for the first time in three years.

Lance began the first practice session on the Hard Pirelli tyres to set a 1.50.219 before quickly improving to 1.47.992 to take him into fourth on the timings at that point.

Amassing eight laps on the Hard compound, Lance put in his best lap time of the session – a 1.46.754 – before pitting to switch onto the Medium tyres.

Lance set an initial lap time of 1.45.221 on the new set of tyres but made contact with the wall at Turn Five.

This damaged the left-rear corner of the car and bringing out a red flag to end his FP1 running prematurely with 12 laps on the board in eighth position.

Due to the contact, the team changed Lance’s gearbox as a precautionary measure prior to FP2, delaying the start of his session slightly.

Once the Canadian was given the all-clear, he set out on the Medium tyres to put in his best time of 1.45.144 with five laps on the board.

Switching onto the Soft tyres for a performance run, Lance put in a 1.44.144 but quickly improved on that, setting a 1.43.982 to place into ninth.

Swapping back to the Medium tyres, Lance rounded out Friday’s running in 10th position with 21 laps on the board.

“Driving in Singapore is always good fun, but it is also really demanding in very hot conditions. I brushed the wall in FP1 today, but fortunately we did not damage the car too much. We did some important homework, especially in the second session, and I think this is going to be a race of opportunity. We will go through the data tonight and see where we can make some progress before qualifying tomorrow.”
