Lance faces misfortune in Monaco

Lance did not finish the Monaco Grand Prix as a result of problems with the AMR26.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team driver Lance Stroll did not finish the Monaco Grand Prix due to misfortune with the AMR26.

An interrupted FP1

Telemetry issues meant Lance didn’t get out immediately in FP1. The team did a number of checks on the AMR26 to resolve the problem before Lance took to the track on Mediums, with the team’s special colour-changing livery.

A Red Flag paused running just after midway through the session.

Additionally, an incident involving teammate Fernando Alonso resulted in a Red Flag right at the end of Free Practice One.

Lance set a total of 16 laps.

Further pauses in FP2

Lance spent FP2 on the Soft tyre.

A Virtual Safety Car put an early pause to running, but once the session resumed, Lance continued on the Softs.

A late Red Flag occurred in FP2, leaving only a few minutes remaining.

Soft-tyre running in FP3

Lance began FP3 on the C5 tyre, this weekend’s Soft compound.

With 15 minutes to go, a Red Flag paused running. The session restarted with less than four minutes remaining, and Lance was quick to get back out on track to continuing collecting information on the Soft tyre.

An unfortunate end to the Monaco Grand Prix

In Qualifying, the team attempted setup changes between sessions, but due to limited grip and downforce, Lance was out in Q1. He qualified P22.

Lance began the 78-lap race on Mediums (the C4 tyre). After another driver had a pit lane-start, Lance was promoted to P21.

By the end of the first lap, Lance was up to P18. A few laps later, on Lap 5, he pitted from P17, opting to make an early stop and continue until the end of the race.

He returned to the track on Soft tyres.

After a total of 56 laps around Monaco, Lance unfortunately made contact with the barrier at Turn 19. He reported a deceleration issue, and the track surface had also begun to break apart at the entry of the corner.

Lance’s season will continue on 12-14 June with the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, said:

"We've been dealing with these drivability issues all season, and it was the same again this weekend.
"The acceleration and deceleration just isn't consistent, and it changes from one corner to the next. At most circuits you've got some run-off to work with, so you can manage it, but around here the walls are really close and any issue can put you into the barrier. That was also a big reason why I was getting picked up for track limits.
"We'll take a closer look after the race, and the team will keep pushing for improvements ahead of Barcelona next week."
