Lance faces a DNF at the Italian Grand Prix

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team driver Lance Stroll did not finish the Italian Grand Prix due to an issue with the AMR26.

Free Practice gets underway

Heading into Monza, the team were aware that the circuit characteristics wouldn’t suit the AMR26.

Lance ran all three tyres compounds across Friday’s sessions, making the most of the opportunity to collect and learn information for the team.

As track temperatures reached 56°C, Lance began the weekend’s first practice session on the Hard tyre.

18 minutes into the session, a Red Flag paused running after an issue for a Cadillac. FP1 resumed with just over 30 minutes left, and Lance returned to the track on Mediums.

Later in the day, Lance was back out for FP2. He spent the whole of the session on the Soft tyre, collecting 27 laps and bringing Friday’s total to exactly 50.

Difficulties on Saturday

Lance continued learning exclusively on the Soft compound throughout the weekend’s final Free Practice session. He gathered 20 laps.

Weather conditions were hot and dry heading into Qualifying, with track temperatures peaking at 57°C.

As a result of the AMR26’s difficulties at the circuit, Lance qualified P22.

Retirement from the race

Following penalties for several other drivers, Lance lined up for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix in P18.

He began the race on Softs and unfortunately lost places on the opening lap.

Charles Leclerc crashed on Lap 3, resulting in a Red Flag. The race got back underway in a standing start, with Lance in P20 on Hard tyres.

On Lap 28, a hydraulic issue meant Lance was forced to stop the car on track and subsequently retire from the race.

His season will continue on 11-13 September with the Spanish Grand Prix.

"We had to retire the car with a suspected hydraulic issue, but we were struggling in the race anyway. We know we don't have the power we need at the moment and today was further proof of that. On paper, Madrid looks slightly better for us so the focus shifts to that now."
