Misfortune in Mexico

As a result of an issue with the AMR26, Lance unfortunately did not finish the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team driver Lance Stroll had a power unit issue which meant he was unable to finish the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix.

Two Free Practice sessions

Lance's weekend began with Free Practice Two after Jak Crawford took his place during FP1 for one of the team's four mandated rookie practice sessions of the year.

In FP2, Lance began on the Medium tyre before pitting for Softs with 25 minutes remaining. For the last few laps of Friday's sessions, Lance returned to the Mediums, and he concluded the session with 24 laps set.

During the final Free Practice session at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Lance added a further 21 laps to his total after spending the whole of FP3 on Soft tyres.

Difficulties in Qualifying

Lance had been struggling with the car's balance throughout the whole weekend. He reported feeling that something wasn’t right with the rear of the car, and he was also struggling with engine issues.

As a result of these issues, he concluded Qualifying in P20, but due to penalties for other drivers, Lance lined up for the Grand Prix in P19.

An early end

Lance chose to begin the Mexico City Grand Prix on Soft tyres. However, abnormal pressure levels with the AMR26 resulted in the retirement of both Lance and teammate Fernando Alonso.

Lance was asked to stop the car on Lap 6 to prevent damage to the battery.

Elsewhere, the Drivers’ Championship title was claimed by Kimi Antonelli.

Lance's season will continue on 6-8 November with the São Paulo Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, said:

"We had an issue and had to stop the car on Lap 6 to avoid damaging the battery. A tough day for the team, who have worked long hours this whole weekend. Still, there's plenty to think about with the car and only a few days before we head to Brazil. We'll see what we've got there."
