Lance ended Friday in P6 as Formula One’s United States Grand Prix weekend began with practice in Austin.

Lance began FP1 on the Hard Pirelli tyres but an early red flag brought him straight back into the pits as Fernando Alonso’s stricken Alpine was retrieved from the track.

With 49 minutes remaining on the clock, Lance returned to the Circuit of the Americas to truly begin his session.

Lance completed 20 laps of the Austin circuit, switching to the Soft tyres mid-session to put in his best lap time of 1.36.972, ending the morning session in P13.

In FP2, Lance immediately took to the track on a set of Medium tyres, quickly putting himself into the top 10 with a 1.35.764 lap time.

The Canadian ran all three compounds during the second practice session, setting his fastest time on the Soft tyres in  1.35.561 to end the day P6.

“It was great fun out there today. There were big crowds in the stands and I enjoy this track. It has been a positive start so far with competitive pace and we have learned a lot too. Managing the tyres will be crucial on Sunday because it is very easy to overheat them in these hot conditions, and we saw that today, plus it is a demanding track generally with some quick sections. We finished the day in P6 and, while I expect others to improve tomorrow, we have some good momentum that we will carry into the weekend.”

FP3 for the US Grand Prix will get underway at 7 PM BST on Saturday, October 23.
