Sitting out FP1, Lance enabled Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team Young Driver Jak Crawford to take the reins of his AMR25 for one of the team’s mandatory rookie sessions.
Lance returned to the AMR25 in Free Practice Two where he completed 30 laps on the Soft compound tyre.
He finished the session in P10.
Lance was first on the track for the final practice session on the Medium compound tyre.
He continued to complete runs on both the Medium and Soft compound tyres throughout the hour session.
Lance finished FP3 in P13.
In Qualifying, Lance took to the track on the Soft compound tyre for his first run.
After his second run he had improved his time to sit P13. As the track conditions improved, Lance went on a third run but couldn’t improve his time and qualified P19 with a time of 1:17.606
Weather conditions were the hottest they had been all weekend come race day.
Lance chose to start on the Soft tyre, hoping to seize any opportunities that the long run down to the first turn presented.
After some slight contact, Lance spun midway through the first lap but quickly went back onto the attack.
He climbed several positions and by Lap 24 he was on the outskirts of the points paying places.
Lance made his first stop on Lap 27 for the Medium compound and returned to the track in P18.
He continued to push but was still unable to break into the points. The team opted for a two-stop strategy, bringing Lance in on Lap 43 for another set of Soft tyres.
Ultimately, he did not have the pace to progress further up the field in the closing stages of the race and finished the Mexico City Grand Prix in P14.
Lance’s season will continue in São Paulo for the Brazilian Grand Prix, 7-9 November.
Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, said:
We always had realistic expectations coming to Mexico and historically this has been a track where we have struggled in the past so starting from P19 today was never going to be easy. I had a spin during the first lap as the track was dirty on the outside. A strong first stint on the Softs and some good moves by the team, but P14 was the maximum that was in it for us today.
