Lance narrowly misses Q3 for F1 Sprint at Monza

Lance ends qualifying in P12 ahead of Formula One’s second Sprint at the Italian Grand Prix.

In the only free practice session of the day, Lance ran all three Soft, Medium and Hard compound Pirelli tyres, fully utilising the small amount of practice time available.

The Canadian was able to put in a 1:21.676 lap time to finish in P4 ahead of qualifying.

‍

In Q1, Lance put in a 1:21.955 on his first lap to place him in P4. However, as the rest of the field delivered their flying runs, Lance was pushed down into P14.

‍

With only two minutes remaining, Lance returned to the track for a second fast run to put in a 1:21.415 and secure himself a position in Q2 in P11.

In Q2, Lance was able to put in a 1:21.036 lap time to place himself in P8 but in the final two minutes of the session, the Canadian driver was pushed down into the elimination zone.

On his final run in the session, Lance was able to deliver a 1:21.020 lap time but was unable to advance into Q3 and will start the F1 Sprint from P12.

“It is a pity to have narrowly missed out on Q3. It was a solid effort by the team and we were able to get in some good laps despite the challenges Monza always throws up in qualifying. Traffic was an issue for everyone and it was difficult to find good tows. While it is disappointing not to have made Q3, tomorrow’s Sprint race should give us the opportunities to gain places and start Sunday’s race inside the top ten.”

FP2 for the Italian GP will begin at 11am BST on Saturday September 11.
