Lance Stroll ended the first F1 Sprint of 2022 in 15th ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
Lance made good use of the first dry conditions of the weekend in FP2, testing out all three tyre compounds ahead of the Sprint later that day.
Completing 38 laps, Lance set his best lap time of a 1.21.149 on the Medium Pirelli tyres with only six minutes remaining, resulting in 14th at the end of the session.
The first Sprint of the 2022 season got off to a steady start for Lance as the Canadian was able to capitalise on an incident for Guanyu Zhou to improve one position.
Defending against the hard-charging Lewis Hamilton, Lance maintained his position until lap eight of the compact 21-lap race but was unable to keep the Brit behind him as the DRS-assisted Mercedes swept by.
Lance continued in 15th position until the end of the Sprint, where he will begin tomorrow’s race.

“We did everything we could today, but we just did not have the pace to make up significant ground. I enjoyed battling with Lewis [Hamilton] – he kept me on my toes! I have enjoyed having the Sprint format return because it is a great challenge to have just one practice session before qualifying on Friday and then racing on Saturday. It helps spice things up a bit. Now, though, we will go away and look at the data to see where we can improve for tomorrow. There is a chance of mixed weather conditions, so, hopefully, we will get a bit of rain and the race will come to us.”
