Lance claimed P7 and six points at the Italian Grand Prix as Formula One’s second triple-header draws to a close.

Lance claimed P7 and six points at the Italian Grand Prix as Formula One’s second triple-header draws to a close.

With free tyre choice from the Sprint, Lance opted to begin the race on the Medium compound Pirelli tyres as he lined up in P9.

As the race got underway, it was a frantic start as the field filtered through the first sector enabling Lance to gain one position.

A spin for Antonio Giovinazzi caused Lance to take evasive action to avoid contact with the Alfa Romeo driver ,maintaining P8.

Lance maintained the position until lap 22 of the 53-lap race when he was passed by Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.

As the first of the early pitstops began, Lance moved into P7 before pitting himself on lap 27 for Hard compound tyres.

A Safety Car for a crash between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen started a flurry of pitstops and allowed Lance to maintain P7.

Lance held the position for the remainder of the race to finish in P7 and gain six points.

Lance Stroll – Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team Driver

“Finishing P7 is a good result and a great job by the team. It was a case of pushing the entire race because the field was pretty close throughout. We managed to find a good spot with the car. While we were not quite as quick as some of the others on the straights, we were strong in the corners, and we were able to make that work for us. I think seventh was the maximum we could have achieved today considering our race pace. After three races in a row, it is nice to have a bit of a break before we head to Russia and I am looking forward to getting back in the car there.”

F1 will return for the Russian Grand Prix from Friday September 24 with FP1 at 9:30am BST.
