Lance Stroll climbed from P19 on the grid to P10 in Formula One’s 2021 French Grand Prix, making all of his moves on track on the tricky-to-pass Circuit Paul Ricard.

After an unlucky qualifying on Saturday, Lance started the race from the back row of the grid once racing got underway, the Canadian made a blistering start to climb to P16 by the end of the second lap.

Lance worked his way up through the pack, taking advantage of longevity of his Hard compound tyres to make his way into P11 by lap 17.

As the majority of the grid made their first pitstop, Lance continued and rose all the way to P7 before pitting on lap 34 for a set of new Medium tyres to re-join P14.

Lance would quickly clear George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda, to rise to P11 before beginning a 10-lap run to the flag against Carlos Sainz Jr.

The fresh tyre advantage and Lance’s rapid pace soon told as he cleared the Ferrari on lap 49 to ensure he scored the final point in P10.

Lance Stroll – Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team Driver

“I was comfortable in the car and we were able to extract some good pace today. Paul Ricard is normally a track with little overtaking, but I managed to make all of my passes on track. Conditions were a bit tricky out there because the wind was changing from lap to lap, and there was quite a bit of tyre degradation across the field. Towards the end of the race, a lot of drivers were struggling for grip and we were able to take advantage to finish P10. It was a well-earned result and a good strategy certainly helped. Getting both cars into the points is a decent result, especially because we started P19. We have made progress with our race pace, but we need to make further gains on Saturday to help continue our consistent points-scoring form.”

Lance will be on track for FP1 of the StyrianGP on Friday June 25 from 10:30am BST.
