Lance finished Friday in P16 as Formula One returned to Paul Ricard for the French Grand Prix.

After a year’s absence from the calendar, Lance and the rest of the grid were quick to join the circuit for FP1 and refamiliarise themselves with its 15 corners of varying speeds.

Despite tricky conditions and high winds, Lance completed 23 laps of the 5.8km circuit, putting in a 1.35.275 lap time to end the morning’s session in P14.

Moving into the afternoon session, the conditions became more settled, and Lance was able to put in a 1.34.632 lap time, which put him into P16 at the end of the session.

“It was really hot out there today, and very gusty at times, which made for some tricky conditions because it is a low-grip track surface. It was particularly windy early in the day, but we were able to get into a rhythm and work through our programme. We have learned some useful things about the car balance and done some important homework. However, I think we are leaving some pace out there, so we will go away tonight, look over everything and try to come back stronger tomorrow. The midfield is already looking very close this weekend, so small gains can certainly make a difference; that is what we will be aiming to find for qualifying.”

Lance will be back on track for the final free practice session of the weekend on Saturday June 19 from 11am BST.
