Heartbreak for Lance in Hungary

Lance Stroll’s 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix came to an early end as a result of the opening-lap collisions at the Hungaroring.

Lance Stroll’s 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix came to an early end as a result of the opening-lap collisions at the Hungaroring.

After a weekend of sun and soaring temperatures, which provided challenging conditions in practice and qualifying, heavy rain arrived in the build-up to Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Due to the conditions, Lance and the team started the race on Intermediate Pirelli tyres as he lined up P12 on the grid.

Once the lights went out, Lance made an excellent start despite the tricky conditions.

Unfortunately, due to an incident in front of him, Lance opted to take the inside line into Turn One but locked up under braking.

The Canadian driver then collided with the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo.

Due to the damage, Lance’s race was ended on the spot.

“ It is really frustrating to have to retire so early in the race. Once the incident at the front of the field happened, I took the line to the inside to try and avoid making contact, but I locked up under braking. As soon as that happened, I knew I would not make the corner because it was so slippery and tricky out there. I did all I could to avoid contact but, unfortunately, my race was over. We will take the break to regroup and we want to come back stronger in Belgium.”

Lance will return for the Belgium Grand Prix on Friday August 27 from 10:30am for FP1.
