Enjoyable Friday in Qatar for Lance

Lance ended Friday practice sixth despite facing a disrupted morning session at Formula One’s inaugural Qatar Grand Prix.

Taking to the track for his first taste of the Losail International Circuit, Lance evaluated the Hard compound Pirelli tyres at the start of FP1, setting a 1:29.118 lap time on his first run and slotting into 11th.

The Canadian continued to improve on his lap time, putting in a 1:26.712 run for 10th before pitting to switch onto a set of new Soft tyres.

‍

Unfortunately, a hydraulic issue relegated Lance to the pit lane, with his FP1 session ending prematurely.

‍

In FP2, Lance wasted little time before taking to the track as he continued to familiarise himself with the new circuit in conditions representative of Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race.

Opting to start on the Medium tyre, Lance put in a 1:26.854 lap time on his first run and continually improved to reduce his lap time to 1:24.733 on his final lap on the mid-range compound before pitting.

‍

Returning to the track on the Soft tyres, Lance slotted into third with a 1:23.705 lap time as he and the team focused on qualifying and race simulations at the close of the session.

Lance ended the day in an encouraging sixth place after showcasing promising pace in FP2.

“The track has a very good flow and that makes it very enjoyable. I had a lot of fun today. The hydraulics issue we experienced in FP1 did not cost us too much track time and for the second session the car felt really good. Saturday is another day but I have high hopes for a competitive weekend. Progressing through to Q3 is definitely the objective. If we can qualify well, I think we will be strong in the race too.”

FP3 for the 2021 Qatar Grand Prix will get underway at 11:00 GMT on Saturday, November 20.
