During Free Practice, Lance worked on learning as much as possible and getting to grips with the challenging Baku City Circuit.
He spent the majority of the Free Practice sessions on the Soft compound before switching to Mediums for the final 10 minutes of FP3.
Concluding the weekend’s Free Practice, Lance totalled 56 laps.
Lance started Q1 on the Soft tyre, but a Red Flag paused running shortly into the session.
Q1 resumed with just over 11 minutes to go, and Lance was straight back out on track.
With six minutes remaining, another Red Flag paused running, with Lance in the bottom five.
When the session started again, Lance made big improvements during his final fast lap. With a time of 1:42.101, Lance concluded the segment in P8, putting him safely through to Q2.
Another Red Flag interrupted the early stages of Q2. When Lance returned to the track, the wind created challenging conditions due to changing direction, resulting in sudden losses in downforce.
Lance concluded Qualifying in P14.
Lance began the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from P14 on the Medium tyre.
Following a crash for Oscar Piastri, a Safety Car period began on the opening lap, with Lance up to P13.
15 laps in, Lance was searching for opportunities to overtake and challenging Franco Colapinto ahead.
By the midpoint of the race, Lance was up to P11.
Lance did a long stint on his Medium tyre, hoping that he could take advantage of a Safety Car period. However, as he neared the end of the race without any signs of a Safety Car incoming, he made his pitstop at the end of Lap 38.
Switching onto the Hard tyre, Lance returned to the track in P17, which is where he concluded the 51-lap race.
Lance’s season will continue at Marina Bay Street Circuit for the Singapore Grand Prix on 3-5 October.
