Lance secures seventh in Silverstone

Lance concluded the British Grand Prix in P7 after an eventful race.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team driver, Lance Stroll, climbed 10 positions to finish P7 at the British Grand Prix, where he'd also placed  P7 in 2024.

Comparing upgrades in FP1

The team brought new updates to the AMR25. However, Lance ran the previous specification in FP1 in order to compare his car with that of team-mate Fernando Alonso who had the new updates applied.

Lance began on the Hard tyre and pitted for Softs halfway through. For his final stint, he returned to the Hard compound.

Applying the new updates

Following data collected in FP1 on the new updates, the new floor and top bodywork were applied to Lance’s AMR25.

He started in the Medium tyre and switched to Softs with just under 30 minutes remaining.

Lance concluded FP2 in P7.

Final Free Practice in Silverstone

After running a single lap on the Mediums and the Hards, Lance spent most of FP3 gathering information on the Medium compound.

A Red Flag towards the end of the session paused running. Lance resumed on the Soft tyre, but a second Red Flag put an early end to the weekend’s Free Practice sessions.

Misfortune in Qualifying

A stronger wind was present in Qualifying, as well as drops of rain.

Lance was straight out in Q1 to set a time before any potential further rain hit the track.

Lance’s AMR25 was missing balance, resulting in him qualifying P18.

Top ten in the British Grand Prix

After rain came down at the circuit throughout the day, the track was damp, with Sector Three still wet.

Following a penalty for another driver, Lance began from P17 on the Intermediate tyre.

Though several drivers switched to dry tyres after the formation lap, Lance remained on the Intermediate compound due to more rain expected during the race.

Several Virtual Safety Cars affected the early stages of the race. At the end of Lap 6, Lance took advantage of the VSC and drying track conditions and pitted for Soft tyres. He resumed the race in P12.

Once the VSC ended, Lance’s pace on the Softs was clear. In the middle sector, he was approximately 10 seconds faster than Alex Albon who was still on Intermediates.

Lance began making overtakes and had his sights firmly set on the top ten.

He was running in eighth by Lap 10. However, due to increasing rain, he pitted at the end of the lap for Intermediates and returned to the track in P11.

With two well-timed pitstops, he gained track position, and after other drivers made pitstops for fresh Intermediates, Lance was up to fourth place, 13 positions gained since the start of the Grand Prix.

Following two Safety Cars and a spin for Max Verstappen, Lance climbed into the podium positions.

By Lap 30, the track was slowly drying and temperatures were rising. Lance then started to experience tyre degradation and had less grip than drivers behind him.

Lance and the team chose to pit on Lap 42, switching to the Soft tyre.

He concluded the team’s home Grand Prix in P7 and secured six points.

Lance's season will continue on 25-27 July with the Belgian Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, said:

"Very mixed weekend for us at Silverstone – we showed some decent pace during Practice on Friday, which unfortunately we couldn't build on during Qualifying and started from the back today. The team made some good strategy calls during the race and overall a good result.
"I really struggled with tyre degradation and unfortunately we weren't in a position where we could fight for more. [Nico] Hülkenberg had a lot more grip during that last stint and with the level of degradation we got the best possible result today."
