Lance secures season-best finish in Singapore

Lance Stroll claimed his best finish of the 2022 season as Formula One returned to Marina Bay for the first Singapore Grand Prix in three years.

Lance Stroll claimed his best finish of the 2022 season as Formula One returned to Marina Bay for the first Singapore Grand Prix in three years.

As torrential rain poured across the Marina Bay Circuit, the start of the race was delayed by over an hour.

When conditions improved and the cars made their way to the grid, Lance was promoted to 11th position due to a pitlane start for George Russell.

Donning the Intermediate tyres, Lance made early progress to make his way into the top 10 on the opening lap but was quickly caught by the Red Bull of Max

Verstappen, dropping him back to 11th place.

An incident between Zhou Guanyu and Nicholas Latifi brought out an early Safety Car on lap eight, neutralising the race for two laps until both cars were cleared.

As the race resumed, Lance maintained his place behind Yuki Tsunoda before a mistake for Tsunoda and a mechanical issue for Fernando Alonso promoted Lance up two

positions into ninth postion.

Pitting for his only stop of the day, Lance switched to the Medium tyres on lap 35 to get the jump on teammate Sebastian Vettel as well as Pierre Gasly and Lewis

Hamilton, who all had pitted before him.

A further Safety Car for Tsunoda allowed Daniel Ricciardo to get the jump on Lance, moving the Canadian into what would become sixth place when Verstappen made an

error on the restart.

Lance managed to pull a gap between himself and Vettel behind in the closing stages to claim his sixth place and his best finish of the season so far.

Lance Stroll – Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team Driver

“It feels so good to pick up sixth place tonight, which is my best result of the season. It was also a good day for Seb, so we have come away with a big bunch of points. That is great for everybody in the team who is working so hard. It was a tricky race: the track surface was very slippery for the whole race, and it was not easy to stay out of trouble. It took a very long time to dry, just as it did yesterday. It was just a case of waiting for the areas with the new asphalt to dry out before the switch to slicks, which we timed really well. We have moved up in the teams’ championship, which is important and a nice boost as we enter the final part of the season.”
