Lance ready to ‘push hard’ in Portuguese Grand Prix

Lance is positive ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix despite qualifying in P17.

Lance is positive ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix despite qualifying in P17.

The windy weather conditions made Saturday tricky for all drivers especially Lance as he tried to muscle his AMR21 machine around the twisty, undulating Portimão circuit.

Despite a promising start to proceedings on Friday, the Saturday conditions hindered the Canadian driver throughout the day as he struggled for pace in FP3, ending the morning session in P16.

There was little improvement to the gusty weather going into Q1 and Lance was unable to find a comfortable balance with the car, coupled with hitting traffic at the end of the session, Lance was unable to improve on a qualifying place of P17.

“A difficult qualifying session and we did not manage to build on the performance level we showed yesterday. I was not very comfortable in the car today and I could not lean on it as much. The traffic at the end of Q1 also did not help and cost me some time on my second run. It is quite a change from yesterday, so we will go away and understand where we can improve and do better next time. Even though today’s result is disappointing, I think we will be stronger in the race. That has been the case in the previous two races. It is a track where we saw lots of overtaking last year and I will be pushing hard to make up ground tomorrow. With a strong first lap and a good strategy, I think we can score points.”

Lance will be on track for the PortugueseGP on Sunday May 2 from 3pm BST.
