Lance will start the Austrian Grand Prix from P9 as Formula One’s first triple-header of 2021 draws to a close at the Red Bull Ring.

The last free practice session of weekend was focused on collecting final tyre data and refining set-up ahead of qualifying.

Lance ran the Soft Pirelli tyres for the session, completing 19 laps of the 4.3km circuit to end the morning in P11.

In Q1, Lance began the session on a set of new Medium tyres, setting a 1:05.354 lap time.

The Canadian driver then switched to the Soft tyre to comfortably secure his place in Q2 with P13.

For Q2, Lance delivered a 1:05.420 on his first run to go P2 but was P9 ahead of the field’s second runs.

Lance was able to improve on his lap time during his second run, putting in a 1:04.547 lap time to advance into Q3 in P9.

During Q3, Lance completed running on both used and new Soft Pirelli tyres, setting his best lap time of 1:04.618 on the new set. His lap time placed him into P10 for the Austrian Grand Prix.

A post-qualifying penalty for team-mate Sebastian Vettel then promoted Lance into P9 for the race.

Lance Stroll – Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team Driver

“We can be happy with qualifying today because starting inside the top 10 gives us a good shot at points tomorrow. In hindsight, I think we could potentially have started a little bit higher up. The car felt good in Q2 and the laps came together nicely, but it was a little bit more tricky to put clean laps together during Q3. We could see today that teams were considering both the Soft and Medium tyres in qualifying, so the compounds could be quite close to each other. That is something for us to go away and think about for tomorrow because strategy could be more important with the softer tyre compounds this time out. We will go do our homework and come back tomorrow to fight for points.”

The Austrian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday July 4 from 2pm BST.
