Lance narrowly misses Q3 to start P11 in Spain

Lance will start Formula One’s Spanish Grand Prix from P11 on the grid after just missing out on a place in Q3.

The Canadian driver comfortably made his way through from Q1 into Q2 as he ended the short session in P8 with a 1.18.241 lap time.

‍

Despite delivering a 1.17.974 lap time in Q2, Lance had to settle for P11 after missing out on a place in Q3 by a several thousandths of a second.

Lance will line up alongside AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly from the sixth row of the grid for the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix.

“It is a shame to have missed out on Q3 by such a tiny margin – just a few thousandths of a second. The positive is that by starting in P11, we have the flexibility to choose our start tyre and that could be crucial because I think tyre wear is going to be a very important factor in the race. It is not easy to overtake here, but if we can have a good start and gain places on the long run into Turn One, we can give ourselves a good platform for points on Sunday.”

The Spanish Grand Prix will take place on Sunday May 9 from 2pm BST.
