Good points finish for Lance in Australia

Lance secures valuable points at Albert Park.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team driver, Lance Stroll, delivered a solid performance at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, securing valuable points with a sixth-place finish.

Practice

Throughout Free Practice, Lance continued to fine-tune the performance of his AMR24. These sessions proved invaluable in terms of gathering data, especially when testing new front wing flaps. Following the tests conducted throughout Friday, the new front wing flaps demonstrated improved performance and were implemented ahead of Qualifying.

Since Pirelli brought the softest three compounds to Melbourne, Friday’s practice sessions were also a good opportunity for Lance to collect crucial data around tyre degradation for the Soft and Medium compounds.

After a strong FP2, Lance finished fourth, signalling a promising start to the weekend.

Qualifying

Achieving 10th in Q1, Lance’s strong performance ensured his passage to Q2. He then placed eighth after establishing a good rhythm, securing a spot in Q3.

In the final qualifying session, Lance opted to run when the track was a little clearer, providing him with the opportunity for only one flying lap.

During his lap, Lance skilfully managed a snap of oversteer between turns nine and 10. However, this oversteer, caused by windy conditions, compromised the lap and cost him approximately three-to-four tenths.

Grand Prix

With a strong start from ninth on the grid, on Medium tyres, Lance passed Yuki Tsunoda on the first corner before settling into a good rhythm for the opening stages of the Grand Prix.

As expected, tyre management was key due to the high-degradation nature of the Albert Park Circuit. Lance succeeded in looking after his Medium tyres before switching to the Hard compound.

On lap 38, Lance pitted again for a new set of Hards which would last him until the end of the race. He came out in eighth and maintained the position for the later stages of the Grand Prix.

After a crash ahead of him on the penultimate lap, and a penalty for another car as a result, Lance classified in sixth – his best result of the season so far.

As a result of his strong performance throughout the weekend, Lance assisted the team in securing their second double points finish of the season.

His season will continue on April 5-7 with the Japanese Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco® Formula One Team driver:

“It was a solid race today and I’m pleased to pick up a few points. I had a strong start, gaining a couple of places on the first lap, and then settled into a good rhythm. As expected, managing the tyres was the biggest challenge due to the high degradation, but I looked after them well and the team did a good job with the race strategy. We still have some more pace to find in the car, but I think we leave Australia knowing we made the most of the package we have.”
