Challenging qualifying for Lance leaves him 14th

Despite improving his lap times throughout the day at the Yas Marina circuit, Lance was only able to get himself into Q2 for the final race of the season.

Free Practice Three, the last of the season, got off to a steady start for Lance, but the hot temperatures weren’t entirely representative of the race tomorrow or qualifying.

Completing the majority of his session on Softs, Lance managed to put in a best lap time of 1:26.298, finishing the session in 16

Qualifying was slightly better, as Lance managed to get himself into Q2 after finishing in 13 during Q1 in a very close segment.

The competition was hot in Q2, and even though he managed to improve on his best time to 1:25.359, he was only able to qualify 14th.

He is set to start the final race of the season from this position alongside Daniel Ricciardo, who picked up a penalty last time out.

“I was happy with my final lap in Q2: it was good and clean, but we just lacked a little bit of speed to Sebastian, who has had a really good day in his final qualifying. Crucially, we have qualified ahead of both Alfa Romeos and the car has been behaving really well this weekend. We will look to move forward into the points. It will be a long race and we have lots to fight for tomorrow.”
