Challenging qualifying for Lance and the team in Australia

Lance Stroll and his Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team endured a challenging Saturday in Australia.

The removal of a fourth DRS zone meant Lance and the team spent the early stages of FP3 tweaking the set-up of the AMR22.

With 30 minutes remaining, Lance briefly joined the session on a set of Medium tyres before returning to the pits to switch onto a set of Softs.

Lance would set a best lap of 1.21.636 and completed 11 laps before a crash at Turn 11 ended his session.

After theFP3 crash, Lance’s Aston Martin team worked tirelessly to repair his AMR22, incredibly completing the work with just five minutes remaining in the Q1 session.

Before the Canadian was able to set a lap time in qualifying, a collision with the Williams of Nicholas Latifi ended his bid to make Q2.

“It was a messy day, unfortunately. More than anything, I want to say thank you to the team for their incredible hard work today. It was not easy to get the car ready for qualifying, but they managed it. It was a shame to have such an awkward incident with Nicholas [Latifi] in Q1, though. It happened at a narrow point of the track and I was following the curve of it to the right. As I went to the inside, he accelerated at the last second and made contact. It has been a day to forget, so we will regroup and come back tomorrow and try to take any opportunities that come our way in the race.”

The Australian Grand Prix will take place from 6am BST on Sunday, April 10.
